Yes,, you can run two VTP servers in same network, same domain,,,
One with higher revision number will be the primary VTP server.
In case first one goes down, second VTP server will take over.
Second VTP servers (switch) will get new VLAN information from first VTP
server.
You can create a VLAN in second VTP server, but it will not advertise to
other switches in that VTP domain.
Only the VLANs that are created in First VTP server will be advertised.
I am not sure if this is good design or not, I guess that will defer from
person to person.
In any case. Save your config on your VTP server at all times, every day or
every week.
Or run CiscoWorks2000 or some sort of config management tool.
As you know, if someone plugs in a new switch with higher revision number on
same VTP domain.
-- Your switch network will be down, until you shut that switch down or
bring up the VTP server with higher revision.
Personally, I do not like to run VTP at all, unless I have to, I like to run
transparent mode on all my switches.
And If I have to create a VLAN, I use CiscoWorks to run config on multiple
switches at same time. Or type it in if its only couple of access switches.
I just don't like to leave a protocol running that can shut me down at any
given time.
-- Just my 2 cents....
