I still have a need to say a few words about passing the lab in first
attempt and my impression about it, at all.. I hope it could be good
motivation for all the people who haven't been there yet
So, I did it 29.04, in Brussels
Facts:
- the stuff you'll see there is not difficult and not hard at all, the
only problem is how do you deal with stress and with many topics in the
short time
- I didn't even had time to finish all the stuff - not to mention
checking the stuff - and I've still passed - > you don't have to
complete all tasks, 80% is enough
- tasks are really, really easy to read & understand, self -
explainable, I didn't have a need to ask anything, at all
- even though the best list of topics of the exam is the doc-CD itself,
I highly recommend IPEXPERT workbook, all the topics I had were covered
there
- my impression of CCIE exam is: TOO MANY RUMORS AND SO MANY "STORIES"
circulating around -> and reality is: if you've been trough the stuff
with hands-on experience, and you believe in yourself, there is nothing
you need to be worried about
- invest more time in studying and practice then reading & writing
e-mails, groupstudy is excellent resource, but you need to filter A LOT
of junk e-mail
- DON'T BELIEVE OTHER PEOPLE NOTES, they might be wrong. believe
yourself when you try it in the lab
- you don't have to buy ISDN simulator, ATM switch, VOICE interfaces,
3550... Of course it's good to have it, but I've managed to pass the lab
first time without it.. I've rented it online 1 day (ISDN, ATM), and
3550 I've seen in reality 1 day at my desk... Switch is a switch, and if
it has L3 functionality you can call it a router - and you should know
how to deal with them. There are some cool features extra you can
practice 1 day what should be enough (READ THE CONFIG GUIDE). Aux back
to back is really cool for practicing routing issues in dial-up
environment
- there is so much information and practice material out there...you
need to prioritize things and find out which ones you like the most... I
have at least 500 MB of material I still want to read, but...
- try to finance the exam on your own - you'll find it much more
interesting and you'll be REALLY motivated to pass it first time
At the end - passing the exam won't make you smarter or better engineer
- it will just make you happier :)
