Hi Juan,

I can recall using 1600R (run from RAM), 3640's, 2611 and possibly 7200
(can't quite remember exact model of last one.)
The exact boot ROMs that were in use I can not recall.

The point being in all of these routers the IOS was executable from RAM and
there was sufficient RAM to hold the image (uncompressed) and data
structures. That's about all I can add.

Wayne

Subject: Re: boot system tftp/ftp on 1720

Hello Wayne:

I've have tried to netboot a 3620 router past week (from a tftp server)
and i was unable to do it. After the reboot, the system always asked for a
bootloader image or so on, and never boots from the tftp. I suspect that
the netbooting feature is specific to some hardware platforms. Anyway, as
you said you have tested it with different Cisco routers, can you provide
some light to this? Have you tried with a 3620 router anytime?

Regards and thank you very much for your help

Hello All,

Has anyone identified a solution to tftp/ftp boot commands not completing.
If have attempted a number of variations on

boot system tftp c1700-bk9no3r2sy7-mz.122-11.T.bin 172.16.30.93
boot system ftp c1700-bk9no3r2sy7-mz.122-11.T.bin 172.16.30.93 (with
anonymous login and user based login)

with config-register 0x2102 or
config-register 0x10F

and yes the archives have been checked as well as various cisco sources
including http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/63/install_tftp.html

Note different tftp/ftp servers (cisco's and the more stable 3com's) have
been tested, both with directed connections and switch based connections.
The transfer starts then hangs after ~11-12K (both tftp/ftp). ( I have
done this successfully with many other routers) but not this 1720. It is
not an issue with the image as other image loads also fail.

Varying error messages result, with the most consistent being
%SYS-6-READ_BOOTFILE_FAIL:
tftp://172.16.30.93/c1700-k9o3sy7-mz.122-11.T.bin
