xyplex dial in port

I am trying to set up a dial in port on my xyplex 1600. I have followed the
instructions in the xyplex basic-config manual, but no luck. The modem
answers the call, but does not establish a session with the port. Does
anyone have a xyplex config for this? Any special modem config I may have
overlooked? I am using a Hayes 336/56K model 4703US.
