SMI does not do much routing...I think only RIP.

EMI does all routing. It is more expensive when you
have the daughter card but is faster. If you do not
want to spend for the daughter card you can still get
an SMI and upgrade to EMI without Daughter card but it
will be slower. If it is for lab practice then is ok.
