Cisco have stated that the 3550 EMI will be used in the Lab. It is the Enhanced software and has router functionality. The SMI version is exactly the same hardware and is a software upgrade to EMI. The price difference is about 1500 Pounds list.

I am going to break down and buy a 3550 for my home lab. My question is, what is the minimum switch I will need to be able to duplicate what I will see in the lab. Also, I am not sure of the difference between the SMI and EMI versions.
