Check the following vtp parameters.
VTP Domain name (case-sensitive)
VTP version (not the config revision number that is the database number)
Are you running in transparent mode on the 2950 not getting the vlan
information? Needs to be server or client mode.
Check the trunking status between the 2950 and the 3550 and make sure it
is up and running successfully with the same trunk mode and encapulation
in this case dot1q?
Check for any vtp password option that might be enable and delete if
necessary.
Finally if it is a vtp config revision number that is higher on the 2950
then the 3550, change the vtp domain name on the 2950 switch which will
reset the database revision number back to zero. Once it is reset back
to zero then change the domain name (case sensitive) back to the proper
name. Then either wait up to five minutes for the standard vtp update
to go out from the 3550 to the 2950 or force an update on the 3550 by
making a name change to an existing vlan on the 3550 or just simply add
another vlan as a test. This should force a new update to the 2950
switch.
Hope this helps.
