The bottom-line benefit of portfast it that the port comes up within a second or two of link. Kennedy Clark in Cisco LAN Switching calls it a "forward-delay" optimization. In other words, forward delay in zero or near zero. SO, technically you could say the port goes through blocking>listening>learning>forwarding, it just spends next to no time in listening and learning. Many Cisco DOCs say it "skips" listening and learning.
