I just finished that lab and I had the same problem. The hub router is the
only interface that can use subinterfaces and no network type statements. The
spoke interface should be standard interace type (no subs or network type).
What I did was applied a neighbor statement to both ends and it seems to
work. I also adjusted the hello and dead interval timer.Don't forget to use
interface-dlci commands for both ends. The reason for this is I believe that
there is a mismatch with network types and the timers are a mismatch. The
neighbor statement allows for adjacencies. See Solie starting around page
