I do too, especially since I was the reviewer for his OSPF chapter!

Seriously, it can be fine to set up a single area domain, but number
it ANYTHING other than 0.0.0.0. If you ever have to expand to more
than one area, you'd then need to renumber, because you want the
backbone to be a small, simple transit area. I discuss this at much
greater length in Chapter 12 of my Designing Routing and Switching
Architectures for Enterprise Networks.

Incidentally, you'll notice that I always write out areas in full
four-octet form. While in IOS, area 1 and area 0.0.0.1 are
equivalent, I know of implementations that will expand area 1 to area
1.0.0.0. It's safer always to use four octets.
