Re: Changes of lab=loss of $$

There are two separate IOS versions of the 3550, SMI and EMI.
My guess is that they chose the 3550 because it can be changed
from a layer 2 switch (SMI) to a layer 3 switch (EMI) with just
a software upgrade. They may even start with an EMI 3550.

If you think about it, Cisco is has a lot of layer 3 switching,
i.e. 4K, 6K, and a few fixed switches. It is only natural that
they would put a layer 3 switch component in the CCIE lab. It
would not be complete without one.

I know a lot of folks who thought that they would put a 6K or a
4K in the lab. Now that they have the 3550, they don't need to.
This was a good choice since it does not set the price point of
a CCIE rack up from what it was, like a 4K or 6K would.
