Bill,
Yes, you can install two 4-port serial cards in a 4000 to have an 8-port
frame switch. You could also install a 2-port and a 4-port to have a 6-port
frame switch. The modules do not need to be next to each other; you could
have something else in between.
You could even use two 4000 routers as a frame relay switch by setting up
tunnels between the routers. Someone with two 2501's could use also use
tunnels over their ethernet interface to join them back-to-back into a frame
relay switch. The config was posted on Groupstudy about a year ago.
