Cisco 4000 and A/S card

I was wondering if I could split up the A/S cards on the Cisco 4000 just
because it seems cheaper to buy 2 4 port serial card than buy an 8 port
card. Would it still be possible to use this as a Frame Switch this way or
do the ports have to be on the same card?
