God yes, my issues come from a NHZI Applique.
My trouble is with some NHZI/H RS-232 female ports. They are meant to
be used with SDLC. In order to use them (I'm told) you have to make a
special cable and set the port to DTE.
I got the cables made. It took me four hours to resolder two straight
thru 25 pin cables to the needed pinouts. I've ohmed out the finished
cables, the pinouts check out.
My test setup right now is, an AGS to external DSU to a four wire 56K
module in a 2524. The DSU and 2524 are known good. I use them with a
2501 with no problem. 2501->v.35->dsu->2524. All green lights and cdp
works.
Note - the DSU's have both rs232, and v.35 ports, their rs232 ports have
worked for me when I used hd60 to rs232 cable with my 2501.
When I connect the ags->rs232->dsu->2524. I get all green lights
(TX,RX,Carrier) and NOTHING works. The only errors that show on the
controller is a increasing residual bit. The DSU also has all green
lights. The routers are protocol down. I've tried hdlc, ppp,
frame-relay. All the same. Have not tried sdlc, but that wouldn't
help me with frame-relay.
Now, this morning I'm trying to decide if I should change the NHZ to
NHZI encoding. It's a jumper on the Applique. Another option is to
invert the clock on the line card. There's also a service-module data
encoding scrabbled command I'm going to check out.
Any Ideas out there? I never dreamed that I would be trying to figure
out if a RS-232 cable going to a 56k dsu should be NHZI or NHZ.
