It sounds like a speed mismatch or flow-control problem. If you haven't done so
already, check the Port Settings in Device Manager and ensure hardware flow co
ntrol is enabled and you're using more than a three-wire cable end-to-end. A go
od terminal emulator should override the Device Manager settings, but you never
know. Hard-set them and remove all doubt.
If all that looks good, try playing with the FIFO buffers in the Advanced secti
on of Port Settings. Typically they're enabled, but sometimes the OS fails to i
nitialize the UART properly on some hardware platforms. So make sure they're en
abled, but if they already are, try playing with the settings (increase/decreas
e or disable altogether).
