At least in the case of being certified by the CCIE program, an employer cannot
"take away" the certification. The certification belongs to the individual--re
gardless of who paid.
Oh, and by the way, I've been with HP for 19 years and I've never heard of some
one getting defrocked of a cert just because they left to go work for a competi
tor, or came to us from a competitor for that matter.
