I never said that the employer took away the certification. I said that
the vendors do. I am talking about the people that gave you the
certification.

The HP STAR CSE has this policy. In the agreement that I signed, I
agreed to both a nondisclosure and stated that I would inform HP if I am
ever employed by a competitor of HP so that they can terminate my
certification.

The Compaq ASE and IBM PSE have similar policies.

I noticed that Christopher M. Heffner, who also receives this list, is
an ASE, so I sure he can verify what I have said about the ASE program
and I am sure that you can ask the CSE people at your work if you still
have doubts.

At least in the case of being certified by the CCIE program, an employer
cannot "take away" the certification. The certification belongs to the
individual--regardless of who paid.

Oh, and by the way, I've been with HP for 19 years and I've never heard
of someone getting defrocked of a cert just because they left to go work
for a competitor, or came to us from a competitor for that matter.
