As you are using authentication, you must add the authentication string
after the virtual link command also.
e.g. area 1 virtual-link 140.4.2.1 message-digest-key 1 md5 cisco.
Dont forget this has to be done on both sides of the virtual link. R2 and
R3. Let me know if that helps.
