I have the following URL from Cisco:

which states that you use ppp authentication chap callin to provide one way
auth. I have also done this by not specify ppp auth chap on one side of my
connection and I get the same results. I am looking to be able to auth one
way and not the other, for example if you have a non Cisco device on one
side. Any ideas as to which is right? There is also a ppp chap wait command
- could someone please clarify the uses of these and the applicable
scenarios?
