In lab 18a it is stated that R2's T0 and any sub-interfaces from R6's S1
are not included in EIGRP although the major network they are on IS
included in the EIGRP "network" statement.
>From the solution, it appears that they are using "passive-interface"
commands to remove the connected networks on T0 and S1 from being
advertised in EIGRP. This is not working for me though. Additionally, in
doing some research I found the following statement on TAC under the EIGRP
FAQ page
Q. Why does the EIGRP passive-interface command remove all neighbors for an int
erface?
A. The passive-interface command disables the transmission and receipt of EIGRP
hello packets on an interface. Unlike IGRP or RIP, EIGRP sends
hello packets in order to form and sustain neighbor adjacencies. Without a neig
hbor adjacency, EIGRP can't exchange routes with a neighbor.
Therefore, the passive-interface command prevents the exchange of routes on the
interface. Although EIGRP won't send or receive routing updates
on an interface configured with the passive-interface command, it still include
s the address of the interface in routing updates sent out of other
non-passive interfaces. For more information, please see How Does the Passive I
nterface Feature Work in EIGRP?.
This makes it sound like even though you have a passive-int for an
interface, the IP address on that interface will still show up in the
routing table if there is a network statement under the routing process
covering it.
So, my question is, has anyone gotten the networks on R2's TO and the
sub-interfaces from R6's S1 to not show up in R13 and R8s routing tables
using "passive-int" and how did you do it?
Additionally, is there any way of blocking a network on a directly
connected interface, and then allow that network to be redistributed into
EIGRP by another routing protocol? I tried doing this with
distribute-lists, but by blocking the network using a distribute-list you
also block the redistribution.
Thanks,
Rob
