In this current economic situation, with companies going
bankrupt daily, and uncertainty at every corner, you would
be crazy to go into consulting with a 3 week old son and
a new house. You owe it to your family to maintain a good
job which it seems like you have.

CCIE or no CCIE, taking risks right now is not advised.
You will be a very expensive new guy for someone, and you
will be the first to get asked to leave. Especially
considering the fact that you have never been a consultant
before, the current environment will not reward someone
who is trying to become a good consultant. Take a shot
with a Gold Partner, but on a guaranteed salary, then
make the change after the economy recovers.

My two cents.
