Cisco recommands using sub interfaces. It states in the Doc CD that primary
and secondary networks will not be supported in the future. He is the link:

Hi - FYI

You don't need to do it on both routers - just on one router is sufficient -
IPX routing takes care of the connectivity rather than at Layer 2.

No problem if you use two different encapsulation types. That's how we use
to do it in the "real world."
