RE: IP allocation matrix question?

Regarding OSPF RIDs: the process will prefer the address of a loopback
interface over the addresses of all physical interfaces, regardless of the
numerical order. If there are multiple loopback interfaces with IP
addresses, OSPF will choose the numerically highest loopback address.

<P>Explain your reasoning behind allocating looback addresses first
please.&nbsp; I thought it would be better to allocate them last so that
they are the highest addresses on the routers.&nbsp; That way your RID's
wouln't change if you reboot etc.<BR><BR></P></DIV>

<DIV></DIV>&gt;Yea, I do.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;Don't try and get all scientific about it. Even though you've
spent alot of
<DIV></DIV>&gt;time mastering the VLSM concept, it's easier to read routing
tables if you
<DIV></DIV>&gt;keep things as simple as possible - using incrementally
higher numbers in
<DIV></DIV>&gt;the 3rd octet for example even though you may have /24 /25
/26 /27, etc. As
<DIV></DIV>&gt;long as the network portion of your addressing is different
for each subnet,
<DIV></DIV>&gt;you won't have any overlapping issues. Also, before you start
typing or
<DIV></DIV>&gt;writing, take into account if you are going to use loopbacks
and allocate
<DIV></DIV>&gt;those subnet numbers first. Hope that helps.

<DIV></DIV>&gt;Does anyone have any good tips for an IP allocation matrix
for the lab?
