Well,

If it was about the money, you could make over $130k per year without CCIE.

Most IT Directors enjoy the technical skills a CCIE may bring to the table
and they would pay for those skills set. However, a business savy tech
person that can develop real business solutions through use of technology is
Priceless!

The senior level guys I work with or soooo good! They have been around for
at least 8+ years. They believe CCIE is a waste of time for them. But they
don't knock anyone that has the cert after they have proving themselves in
the real world environment of course.

Say for instance you show up at a Company with your brand new CCIE label
stamp on your chest. Expectations are high with the new cert, for those who
didn't know.

The first thing the boss tells you is that he wants to implement a ERP
solution using SAP R/3 software on IBM AIX boxes. Implementing this type of
a solution for client requires, Project management skills,
Consulting skills, Tech skills, and my favorite - knowing how to get things
done in lieu of just knowing how they are done.

I know where this is going, even though the CCIE does prove the highest
level of networking ability, there will be so many ccie's out there soon.
Everyone in this industry wants to have it because of the 130,000 a year min
a CCIE can get. Pretty soon it wont be hard to find Cisco people, but very
hard to find Nortel,FORE,Juniper, and Cabletron engineers. This is just my
to cents : ^ )

I would say also to go with your Cisco Knowledge add some UNIX(not Linux) to
your bag of weapons.

20-22...in fact, two of them are part of this group.
