I just went thru this for about 2 days trying to get it to work also. The
bottom line is, it comes down to the hardware, and the IOS you are using.
Your best bet is to use the full NSAP address. Some IOS's will work fine
with just the ESI address, other will not. The same is true for the server
side. But you will need one of the 2 either an ESI address or an NSAP
address.
Hope it helps, Howard

Subject: ATM - ARP - SVC
Hi, everyone
Just like to verify one thing , on ATM CLIP w/ ARP in SVC environment,
For ARP server and client, is the ESI-address required or optional?
for example,
! ARP client
ip address 10.1.1.1/24
atm pvc 1 0 5 qsaal
atm pvc 2 0 16 ilmi
atm esi-address <esi-addr> --------> is it required or optional?
atm arp-server nsap <nsap-addr>
Thanks,
Chi
