My "access server" is a Ubuntu Linux box with a bunch of USB hubs on it
connected to cheap USB->Serial adapters. One hole in my firewall is all I
need to SSH home and connect to any of my routers. If you already have a
separate access server, no reason you can't just use an old cheap-o PC as
your SSH jumpbox into your network.

Getting all the VPN stuff working properly eats up study time. SSH is
simple and easy to setup, assuming you have an old box around. You just
need text access anyways, right?

My 2c.
