Re: Maximum Metric for OSPF E1 Routes

Interestingly enough, I got an e1 route to go far beyond the max metric and I
also got intra area routes to go beyond the 65535 metric. I thought these
would have 'poisoned' the route but I guess not. So in essence, unless this
is a code version thing, there is no way to poison an OSPF route using a large
metric. Has anyone had a different experience?

Dave,

Router LSAs can have
a much larger *calculated* metric than that.
That's the maximum interface cost
that can be carried in the LSA. I'd
have to check the format, but on top of my
head, I think the external
metric is a 24bit value.
