The brands themselves rather than the specific products? In that case
maybe Gartner?
BTW I don't think this is on CCIE R&S Blueprint at least and if it's
Security, you only need to know one brand I believe....
Assuming you are talking enterprise rather than for consumer use, If you
haven't already It may be worth trying to understand your business
requirements, e.g. number of physical interfaces, virtual domains,
throughput, dynamic routing support, high availability (active-active vs
active-standby) how they support asymmetric traffic, software vs appliance,
physical form factor (rack mount?), scalability (pluggable cards for more
processing/interfaces) environmental requirements (AC or DC Power,
temperature range, humidity, ingress of dust/moisture, EMI and vibration),
are you looking beyond basic firewall towards full UTM functionality too,
what about management e.g. do you need policy management for millions of
beasts out in the field that you may want to relatively easily push out
policy changes, what kind of reporting and alarming do you need (do you
even want to manage it yourself or get it as a managed service), are you
looking for remote access termination (IPSec, SSL VPN)...
These are just some of the things that I have quickly pulled out of the air
but I'm sure that there may be many more you need to consider. Then start
contacting some vendors or integrators and make them do the work for you to
identify candidate systems that you can then attempt to find independent
reviews and then maybe see if you can get a demo you can put through its
paces. I think it's somewhat difficult to get a web review of a security
product that evaluates all of the things people are interested in because
different businesses have different requirements.
Mentioning a small sample of vendors besides Cisco that might be worth
considering depending on what you need but not making any specific
recommendations or preferences - Watchguard, Juniper, Fortinet, Checkpoint
and Clearbox
Cheers,
Adam
