If you are willing to sacrifice/dedicate a vlan and a couple (more) of
5000 ports to this, you might try putting the FEX port in its own VLAN,
setting another port in the homing 5000 in this vlan and linking (cable)
to a promiscuous port there.
Ugly. But cable tricks do help with dealing with feature handicaps of
switches WRT private vlans sometimes.
