Forget the lab hours and study guides. Be prepared to gain weight, loose some hair, eye sight and sleep time.

I would suggest a minimum of 1,000 hours before your first lab attempt. I would also suggest using different vendors workbooks for overlap and different perspectives.
I personally use Narbik, Cisco 360, and IPExpert and INE. All of these vendors are very good. We each have our own method to learning, you'll just have to find yours.
