Hi GS,
I was trying to work on bidirectional PIM but I'm a bit confused.
This is my topology:
R1 -(eth)- R2 -(ser)- R3 -(eth)- SW2
I've joined 240.1.1.1 on R2 and BSR rp is R3.
Pim bidir is enabled everywhere and simply R3 is bidir BSR for everygroup.
this works:
ping to 240.1.1.1 from R3
ping to 240.1.1.1 from R2
mtrace from SW2 to R2
mtrace from SW2 to BSR (R3)
this doesn't work:
ping to 240.1.1.1 from SW2
on SW2 I see the pim rp mapping:
Rack1SW2#sh ip pim rp mapp
PIM Group-to-RP Mappings
Group(s) 224.0.0.0/4
RP 5.5.5.5 (?), v2, bidir
Info source: 5.5.5.5 (?), via bootstrap, priority 0, holdtime 150
Uptime: 00:53:37, expires: 00:01:53
and the mroute:
(*, 240.1.1.1), 00:00:03/00:02:56, RP 5.5.5.5, flags: BP
Bidir-Upstream: Vlan58, RPF nbr 155.1.58.5
Outgoing interface list:
Vlan58, Bidir-Upstream/Sparse-Dense, 00:00:03/00:00:00
again on SW2:
Rack1SW2#sh ip pim inter df
* implies this system is the DF
Interface RP DF Winner Metric
Uptime
FastEthernet0/0 5.5.5.5 *155.1.108.8 124330
00:22:49
Vlan58 5.5.5.5 155.1.58.5 0
00:22:49 --> this is the interface on the R3 side
so, everything looks good (at least for me)..
If I do a debug ip mpacket fastswitch 240.1.1.1 and I do a ping from SW2 to
240.1.1.1 I see this:
Rack1R3#
*Mar 1 01:46:35.319: FS(0): Receive s=155.1.58.8 d=240.1.1.1 id=43 prot=1
size=114(100) ttl=254 from FastEthernet0/0 ... punt to create state
and I see this:
(*, 240.1.1.1), 00:00:24/00:03:12, RP 5.5.5.5, flags: B
Bidir-Upstream: Null, RPF nbr 0.0.0.0
Outgoing interface list:
Serial0/0, Forward/Sparse, 00:00:17/00:03:12
OIL shows only serial0/0 (the side to R2) and not the interface to SW2.
Am I missing something in the troubleshooting?
another question: how can I search in the archives of this ml? apparently
they are empty.. :(
thanks a lot
