Understanding Encapsulation types

Guys,

I am having MPLS backbone running RSVP for label distribution, non cisco
devices. I am seeing two different encapsulation types which are as follows

PE router - Under interface it is "dot1q"
P router - Under interface it in "encapsulation"

Not getting what exactly it means, can someone explain
