Hi CCIE3000
Just recently moved from Switzerland to Germany (dont ask why ;) ), so
maybe some insight from another foreigner.

As ccieagen wrote, language is probably one thing that kicks in the most.
Some companies do hire non German speaking people but you can expect to get
some hard german lessons soon and they probably expect you to speak German
as soon as possible. But Germany got the same issue as Switzerland, more
open positions than qualified persons. The Company I work for has around 30
open positions Germany wide, not all Technical or CCIE Level, but there are
still quite a few, and thats for one company only.
Cost of living, it depens where you come from, compared to Switzerland its
low, compared to some other countries its probably quite high

Cities to work, what ever you like or find a good position at, good ideas
are to check the bigger cities. Frankfurt and Munich (I think Berlin too)
are known to have higher cost of living than others, but AFAIK also have a
higher salary.

Salaries, once more, compared to Switzerland are quite low, but if you get
a decent salary, you can make a decent living also. Also calculate arount
50% of Tax on your pre-tax salary (its less, but easier to calculate and
you wont be dissapointed then). You got health insurance and some other
insurances directly with the tax, so you dont have to calculate that
anymore. Benefits here are depend on the company, I got a car from the
comapny and a bonus and some other stuff.
40h work week but no additional time, thats included in the salary. 26 days
of vacation a year up to 30 after 4 years with the company. Also depending
on where you come frome, there are quite some public holidays to add to
those vacation days.
State of the education and health systems: as most other European countries
quite high

good luck :)
