So you need something like a Wireless Workgroup Bridge.

Or perhaps Ethernet over Power Adapter. Or a jump box that has a wireless
adapter in the garage, which can run VNC so you have your layout up and
running constantly and just attach to it. The PC can then act as a TFTP
server and such as well.
