Re: OT: CCDE - how to study and chances to pass it

Some of the problems with SPv3:

Rack rental: To study for any track you need to have 750 900 hours of rack
time access, if you go to GigaVelocity (http://www.gigavelocity.com), where
the charge is $75 for 3 hours, this equates to $22,500 dollars. This is just
the cost of renting racks, nowif you attend a boot camp and/or purchase
materials (Books and etc.) you have to add the cost of that as well, which I
believe it will end up costing you close to $30K.

Material: To write the material properly, you need to have 7600 routers that
allows you to do VPLS, even then, you need to have ES+ card that can cost
100,000 +, or may be use some of the new ME switches that have that
capability. Once again the cost is high.........

You also need to have IOS-XR running on some devices, unless you are sharing
devices in the Boot Camp, you need to purchase bunch of them, I like to see
one pod per student.

These are some of the problems that I see running this track, unless you
dont cover everything in the blueprint.

I much rather have a student go through three different tracks such as
(Storage, Security and R&S) than go through this track and spend that much
money.

Another issue to look at is the popularity and the job market when it comes
to SPv3 in compare to R&S, Security, Storage, Voice, Wireless tracks.

So we came up with this custom Advanced MPLS Boot Camp that covers what MPLS
has to offer, here is the link:

oducts_id=18

I do not want to disappoint anyone or discourage anyone from pursuing the
SPv3 track, but I want students to think about the entire journey and the
cost of that journey versus the popularity of the track.
