Re: CISCO IOU

Not sure I entirely understand your question...

IOU works well, but lacks some of the functions of GNS3 and even more
of the functions of real, live gear. IOU runs quicker and better, not
sure there are any limits. GNS3 makes life really easy (GUI), but if
you have time and *nix skills IOU blows it away.

What the other posters were getting at is IOU was leaked illegally
(from someone at Cisco) and more than likely if you're running it (and
don't work for Cisco), you're doing it against Cisco's wishes. I'm
willing to bet Cisco doesn't approve of using GNS3/Dynamips either,
but not sure anyone on this forum will comment on that here. :) Why
do you ask??? I know many people on this forum that run 7200s in
GNS3, but don't have one physically in their presence or associated to
their CCO. That's a good point to ponder. I'm sure if you read the
license agreement when you download an IOS image it might have
stipulations of how to use it. "That you have a current and valid
service contract that covers either the specific Cisco hardware
chassis".

Either of the 3 paths you choose, good luck. Remember, you pay for
what you get. Pay IPE, INE, CC or Micronics for their rack time and
you have fully functional boxes to play on. Support to work with,
etc. IOU/GNS3 you're stuck on forums and youtube and trial and
error-ing to get it to work.

I do find it funny one of the vendors on this chain has products that
claim "Dynamips Support". LOL!!! Kettle pot, Pot Kettle.... :)

Stay thirsty my friends,
JB
