...or retire, move on to something other than network break/fix or
implementation/delivery, leave Cisco, etc. Not to mention that the exams
were just changed recently, which always slows the pass and recert rate.
Cisco came up with the CCDE partly because lots of internal people were
finding it difficult to pass the CCIE written for recert. Their roles had
changed, and they were no longer keeping up with bits and bytes, commands,
etc.

Two years ago everyone was freaking out when people were passing every day,
saying that there were too many IEs and that it was losing its value. Then
we had OEQ, and then t/s was added. Sure, the pass rate dropped
dramatically, just like it does when the content changes. When was MPLS
added?

What does the demand look like now? How many people do we still have here
on gs that are pursuing the cert? Do the great trainers that help out here
still have jobs? How many people are a Live? 14000! How many of them are
pursuing the CCIE and are signed up for the Techtorial, or whatever they're
calling that now? Are lab seats still getting filled? Now you have more
options for where to take it...

The fact is that CCIEs are still in demand. I changed jobs twice during
this great recession, and both were career advancements. The cert is still
widely respected, and I actually applaud Cisco for taking the necessary
steps to protect yet improve the cert. Don't be alarmed by blog posts that
don't state all of the facts or blatantly try to smear Cisco...
