Seems like your question is specifically related to the address-family under
BGP on a PE router, as in "address-family ipv4 vrf" If the PE is running
BGP with the CE router, the "address-family ipv4 vrf" on the PE is used to
run BGP with the CE in a specific VRF context. The purpose there is so that
the routes learned from the CE on the PE are put into that customers VRF.
When you run BGP to the CE you don't need to redistribute like you would if
you were running an IGP to the customer.
As far as address-family in other IGPs, you can do it with RIP and EIGRP.
You can still run OSPF inside a VRF and certainly can use it as a PE/CE IGP
it just works a little differently (no address-family syntax). ISIS I have
not done before in that application
