Peter,
Yes, yes, I've been there, too. At times, it's all overwhelming. I
have days where I feel like I just don't get it. I move on to something else.
I come back to that workbook or lab and hit it again. I've got labs that I've
done 3 times and still don't get. Does that make me quit- no. Does it make me
feel like maybe I'm doing the wrong track- yes. But, that's just defeat
laughing at the doorway. Don't let him get the best of you!

My personal
struggle is this- I take waaaaaaay too much time on a lab. I over analyze,
family, work, or consulting comes up, etc. By the time I've completed a
technology workbook, 3 months has passed since I started it. In that time,
I've forgotten when to use frame-relay interface-dlci and when to use
frame-relay map ip (but I can sure show you how to perform some amazing stunts
using BGP since it was near the end of the technology lab!). It does seem
hard. That's because it is. But, it's worth it, just get it in your own
time.

My summary- don't give up. Don't get discouraged. From my personal
experience, I found peace when I decided that I wasn't going to take my lab in
12 months after the written. I was even happier when I decided to wait until
my 19 month for my first attempt. Just remember, it's only a dream and a
desire, not a requirement for life. When you remove how much of a pedestal
you've put the CCIE on, and remove this psudeo-time schedule you've probably
given yourself, you'll realize how stressed you've made yourself.

Hit the
labs hard for a month and then take a 2 day break. Find what works for you.
Some reading this might thing it's too laxidasical, and that is because
everyone has different methods of doing things.

Hope this helps- take care,
good luck.

Subject: OT - Motivation

Hi Guys,

Not sure if
this is OT or not, it might be completely relevant actually. I am having one
of those days where nothing seems to have sunk in, my labs are confusing me
and I am wondering if I should take Darby's advice and just work at Mcdonalds!
Where is my motivation and am I really crazy? Am I doing the right thing?

I
was interested to see how everyone deals with these days - what works for you?
I appreciate that every one is different and what works for some might not
work for me, but just to know that I am not the only person in this situation
would be nice :)

Peter.
