Hopefully I can sum up all points and lend some humor & insight on a
Saturday...
Cisco preaches that this is a test of your all-encompassing knowledge on the
technologies and the Lab is not meant to be a real-world scenario. I think
this is where the dichotomy comes into play.. You're testing river-rats like
us on broad and detailed knowledge of the protocols/platforms and yet you're
applying a real-world environment...so on top of payin all this damn $ to be
tested on non real-world designs/architectures and being told to send an EF
packet towards a frame link when you have this nice 100mb ethernet directly
connected... ( your right-side neighbor is crying because he wants more
paper, the sun is shining in your eyes because the bldg sits due East and
its 7:45am and you're still trying to figure out why one router keeps
spittin out checksum errors, oh and now the left-side neighbor who kept
chattin you up before the exam (asking if you're nervous blah blah, hey look
man no offense but I didn't come here to meet new friends) keeps staring at
you, and now...you're hearing laughter from the middle-aged proctor tellin
his fish got away story to the hot college intern with big boobs, who you
yourself cant keep your eyes off of). Yes, this is real-world for sure.
So should Cisco give you a pristine lab, within a bubble, where you can
focus without excuses on why you dont know this topic or that... Yes, they
should. But we know life ain't fair and this is just one of those occasions
;)
And to Narbik's point and a few others... if you know your protocols,
configs, platforms, and interactions at the expert level - all of these
outside things wont bother you and you'll shrug them off without a
thought... who knows, you might even have time to get another glimpse of
that college intern's arse as shes walks away ;)
