No, I don't think you need to know RFC numbers. At least not the
obscure ones. Some of the things are simply called by the RFC number
where they come from. Other things may be an indicator of the actual
IOS command that has RFC number in them. In some cases, talking about
RFC number gives you an indicator not to use vendor-propriatory
solution, but the standards-based one. Etc.
