Bob:
Great tips!!!
I would like to expound a bit on #3. Knowing how to get helpful answers from
the proctor.
This is a topic that i have discussed with folks over the years as well.
when approcahing the proctor with a question, which method would produce a
better response:
A) Hey, I need to know how to do this
B) From the way I am interpreting the requirement I could use (method a ) or
I could use (method b ). Both would meet the requirement as I understand it.
Is my understanding correct?

This may seem to be a radical contrast, but in talking to a proctor or two,
you would be surprised at the questions they get and how they are asked.

When you approach the proctor with a question, relax, he/she is a person
just like you. They understand that you might be nervous. Ask your question
confidently with a proposed solution or solutions to show the proctor you
know what you are talking about. Most of the time, they will be more
responsive to this type of approach. If you are way off base they might tell
you to go back and reread the question. This might not seem like they gave
you an answer, but in a big way they probably did. They probably just told
you that what you were proposing is not valid so go back and thing about it.

If you need help understanding a requirement, state the area of need
clearly. For instance, I could interpret this requirement as xxxxxx. I
wanted to make sure that I was interpreting it correctly for what the lab is
looking for.

Also - LISTEN to what they say. one experience that I had was I went to ask
about a certain part of a requirement. I stated that i had already done the
first piece and gave the proctor the info on what i did. Then went on to
explain how I could meet the second part of the requirement in two ways. He
not only led me to one of the ways over the other, but also told me to
recheck a piece that i explained that I did for the first part of the
requirement - which I let go in one ear and out the other.

Of course in the airport waiting on the flight home, i thought about what he
had told me and realized that my not listening cost me 3 points.
