Hello experts,
Could someone explain how an OSPF route can be present in routing table but not
in the OSPF database? Here is the scenario:
Area 1-----R3-----Area 0-----R4
I am trying to filter a route advertised in Area 1 11.1.1.0/24 from entering
area0:
ip prefix-list TEST seq 5 deny 11.1.1.0/24
ip prefix-list TEST seq 10 permit 0.0.0.0/0 le 32
under OSPF process:
area 1 filter-list prefix TEST out
As a result route 11.1.1.0 is removed from R4 (both routuing table and database)
However the route is still in R3's routing table even if it is removed from
database:
R3#sh ip route 11.1.1.0
Routing entry for 11.1.1.0/24
Known via "ospf 1", distance 110, metric 129, type intra area
Last update from 10.1.23.2 on Serial1/0.32, 00:14:29 ago
Routing Descriptor Blocks:
* 10.1.23.2, from 1.1.1.1, 00:14:29 ago, via Serial1/0.32
Route metric is 129, traffic share count is 1
I thougt so far that a route must be in the database first before it is
installed (or not) in the routing table.
