It seems that CISCO wants to punish you if you miss-configured the RD :D

I have one suggestion. If you did a lot of configuration depends on that
VRF, and you are afraid to miss some configuration when you delete the RD.
then If I am in this situation I would copy the Whole configuration in a
text file and modify the RD for this VRF only in the text file, and delete
that RD from the router's configuration, then take the configuration in that
text file and paste it again on your router. It seems long , but it keeps
you in the safe side :)
