The process of archiving, downloading, and uploading software is taxing on the switch. They don't have much in the way of processing power, anything process switched is very slow. If you want to copy entire image or a directory, try 'archive tar /create' and then serve up your tar via tftp or copy it over.
What are you actually trying to accomplish?
