Re: Passed OEQ but failed the lab config (SP Track)

 You "memorized" it? Seriously?

While impressive, it's also kinda scary. ;) Anyway, therein may lie
the problem. The OEQs are designed to grasp your ability to regurgitate
information, but to apply it.

Not about how to configure things (that's why you have the configuration
section of the lab) but how and why things actually work.

Just my two cents.

  Alexei,

I am in the same boat as you. I easily passed the OEQ but failed the Lab
config on my SP track. I too got a low score on my MPLS VPN, yet I could
ping (most) everything and had time to troubleshoot. I too used IPX and INE
and felt well prepared going in.

I am going back in September (the next available seat) My plan is to be even
more comfortable doing INE and IPX configs plus any variation I can think
of. I need to read the question word by word with my finger on the line. I
need to even more comfortable with my verifications steps. The wording on
my lab was very convoluted and the proctor was of little help, so I need to
be prepared for weird ways of asking for standard operations. (ooh, that's
what you meant! I know how to do that!)

Also, I need to practice more on my L2 configs. I think, but I am not
sure, that maybe my L2 did not come together as well as it could have. I
think the SP lab is putting more emphasis on those type of problems and
neither INE nor IPX does an adequate job covering that material. I
studied the book L2 VPN Architectures quite heavily going in, but did not
practice that very much. Under the pressure of the lab, I know I could
have smoother on my L2 configs.

Be prepared for the unexpected. I had a software bug that absolutely
stopped me from configuring a simple problem.

  So in summary:

Make sure you answer the question they are asking, not the one you think
they are asking Be prepared for weird ways of asking for something simple
Verify verify verify Practice until you don't have to even think about how
do (and verify) something Know that there is an element of luck involved,
but be so good that that those "unlucky" software bugs won't derail you.
  Keep going until you pass...
