Something that I caught myself doing a lot was sitting with my hands at the
keyboard and sitting on the 'home row" keys even when they really didn't
need to be there.
I made a conscious effort to straighten out my fingers and remove them from
the keyboard ready posture to keep limber and reduce some of the issues that
you are talking about.

Joe is right on target with outfitting yourself with the proper tools for
the job. A good external keyboard and comfortable chair set properly helps
out a lot more than your hands.
