Cody,

You've gained an invaluable experience especially in these days that not many
"experienced" candidates are out there. For a well prepared student a failed
attempt is much more than just an expensive lunch :) it's actually the best
possible prep... so IMHO again if someone's 70% ready taking the test once is
much more effective than weeks of study.

All the best in your future endeavor!

I completely agree with Kambiz. I did not expect to pass my first time at all.
But I felt that I had learned I was going to learn from mock labs and such. I
felt I knew about 70% of the material and if I got the right questions I could
pass. So I signed up and figured that 1400 dollars was going to be included as
part of my training for the lab.

Sure enough I didn't pass, but I gained invaluable knowledge for my next
attempt in May. I learned how to manage my time, I learned how to deal with
some of the pressure. Plus I got to see the type of material that I would see
on the lab.

Well, playing CCIE is expensive; do you know anything cheap in CCIE? but it
gets worse if you fail and have to start over (then what you lose is money
PLUS time). My absolute recommendation to my students is that if you think
you're 70-80% ready take the test. Why? because in those extra N months that
you're gonna study more you pay "to play CCIE" (e.g. material); the best ever
material is a real set of questions!

Why you buy a workbook? to increase your chances to pass the exam right? now
I'm telling you there is a way to triple your chances on your second attempt
;) especially in these days that I see "many" successful candidates on their
second attempts...

1400$ might be less for you.. but not for all :-) ...I still remember my
first attempt I had a huge pressure that I have spent 1400$
