Hi Nico,
I agree that a "ip wccp router-id [ip|interface]" command would be a
welcome addition.
We manage a Cisco WAAS installation in one customer site. We got
around a problem similar to yours by adding static host routes to the
router loopback IP via the appropriate next-hop (from the cache's
perspective - in our case this was the router's physical interface
IP).
L2 redirect is cleaner in my opinion and less processor intensive on
some platforms.
I'm not familiar with the Bluecoat product but maybe you can do
something similar. Maybe describe the topology in more detail (to the
list).
Cheers,
Dale

The route back to the Bluecoat is not across that interface though. Now when the router redirects http requests, I can see that the outer IP header in the GRE packet has a source of the WCCP router identifier and not the outbound interface. This seems to cause a problem, because the Bluecoat does not proxy for these requests.

Starting to think that GRE WCCP redirection does not really work. Have another setup with L2 WCCP that works just fine!
