That is correct, both outputs will generate the same default route with a cost of 500. Remember that any summaries that you create for area 2 will also get this cost of 500, the question in your lab, might not request that.
Again for over-configuration you won't loose any points, still I always try to be as specific as possible, so I would always configure the first option.
